Mr. Zeru Woldemichael – General Manager/Chief Executive

Mr. Woldemichael, aged 52, has extensive insurance knowledge having worked in the insurance industry since 1972.  From 1972-1982 he held various positions within the Ethiopian Insurance Corporation.  Mr. Woldemichael started as a Department Head, was subsequently promoted to a Branch Manager and further promoted to an Operations Manager before leaving the company. In 1983 he joined the Khartoum Insurance Company in the Sudan acting as their Technical Manager. 

Since 1991 he has been the General Manager/Chief Executive for NICE.   He holds a Bachelor’ Degree in Business Administration from the Haile Selassie University of Addis Ababa and is a Chartered Insurer by professional qualification (ACII – London).

Mr. Woldemichael is responsible for ensuring the smooth daily operations of all departments, the overall risk management of the Corporation, business development as well as the sound financial standing of the Corporation. He reports directly to the Board of Directors. Mr. Woldemichael is also the Vice Chairman of the Board of Africa Re, a director of PTA Re (where he also acts as the Chairman of the audit committee), and Eritrean Airlines and sits on the executive committee of the African Insurance Organization, as well as being a member of the Board of Trustees of AIO Software Trust Fund.

Paulos Tecleab Asfaha – Acting Finance and Investment Manager


Paulos, aged 42, holds Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting (major) and Management (minor) from the University of Asmara. He also holds a Masters degree in Financial Management and Honors degree in Accounting from the Universities of Pretoria & Free state respectively, from the republic of South Africa. Mr. Paulos has been working in the Insurance Industry since 1987. He has traveled extensively for the purpose of attending seminars & training courses on Insurance.

As the in-charge of Finance & Investment department, he is responsible for all the finance and Investment activities of NICE Sh. Co.

Mr. Mesghina Nemariam – Operation Manager

Mr. Nemariam, aged 62, holds a diploma from the Ethiopian Institute of Banking and Insurance and a certificate in Accounting from the Royal Society of Arts, London. Additionally, he has completed General Insurance training at the Belarussian State Insurance Department in Minisk as well as various Insurance and Re-insurance courses in the United Kingdom and Italy. Mr. Nemariam has 37 years’ experience in the insurance industry having worked as a Branch Manager, Underwriting Head and Claims Head.

As the NICE Operations Manager he is responsible for underwriting, claims and re-insurance activities for NICE. His duties include:

  • Designing and implementing business plans for each department within the Operations division;

  • Ensuring that all underwriting and claims management is conducted in accordance with Corporation policy and procedures;

  • Negotiation and maintenance of re-insurance arrangements;

  • Provision of technical advice to Branches and Agents;

  • and Co-ordination of loss prevention and minimization programmes.

Tuquabo Mobae Beraki – Marketing Manager

Mr. Beraki, aged 53, holds a BA degree in Business Administration and an Associate Diploma in Science, both from the University of Asmara. In addition he has completed Insurance and Re-insurance training at Generale Italy and the Strategic Management Program at WBS/Hollandia Re-insurance in South Africa. Mr. Beraki has worked in the insurance industry since 1992, but also has considerable experience in the banking industry, working as a banker from 1974-1992. He also served as the Physical Education and Program Secretary from 1970-1974.

As Marketing Manager at NICE he is responsible for the development and expansion of the business activities of NICE. His duties include:

  • Designing and implementing business plans for each department within the marketing division;

  • Collection and analysis of data from NICE, similar companies abroad and the Eritrean marketplace to accurately target and plan growth of NICE’s operations;

  • Preparation and submission of reports to the Government regarding introduction of legislation of the insurance industry in Eritrea; and

  • Planning and conducting training courses for sales agents and marketing staff.

Habteab Tewoldemedhin Ghezzhei – Audit Department Head


Mr. Ghezzhei, aged 51, holds a Batchelor of Arts degree in Business Administration (major) and Economics (minor) from the University of Asmara.  He has completed short-term training courses in Insurance and Re-insurance as well as in Management in various locations including Italy, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and Asmara. Mr. Ghezzhie has worked in the insurance industry since 1975 as a Clerk, Supervisor, Internal Auditor, Senior Accountant, Accounts Department Head, Branch Manager and Marketing Department Head.

As the Head of NICE’s Audit Department, Mr. Ghezzhei is responsible for ensuring the Corporation’s systems and procedures are being followed especially as they pertain to credit, agency agreements, underwriting, re-insurance, and accounting are being followed consistently. Mr. Ghezzhei reports to the General Manager and to the Board of Directors.
